Chapter Summary

• Publishing guidelines establish quality standards for online learning programs.
• Editorial guidelines identify the style guide that determines how to handle headings, punctuation, usage, and similar stylistic issues, and the dictionary, which determines exact spellings and definitions for terms. Additional issues are documented in a style guide for the project.
• Technical standards for authoring identify the hardware, and software needed to create the online learning program, and industry standards that the program must meet.
• The minimum configuration for viewing states the hardware and software needed for learners to view the program.
• Templates codify the guidelines in fill-in-the-blank forms, to increase the likelihood that developers conform to guidelines.
• Publishing specifications state how a CD or DVD will be packaged and how accompanying materials will be printed.
