Issues to Consider When Establishing the Schedule for a Technical Review

Copying

Unless you are sending review drafts by electronic mail, leave at least 2 business days between the time a draft is ready and the time it should be distributed. Even quick copy centers need some time to make copies.

Distribution

  • If you are sending review drafts by electronic mail: leave at least one-half day, in case the system is full of “traffic” (and the large files of your review draft only add to the system traffic).
  • If you are sending by surface mail: leave at least 3 business days for drafts to reach their destination. Note: A business day is a regular workday. Unless you previously negotiate that reviewers are available on weekends and holidays, assume that they are not.

Reviewing

Give reviewers at least 1 business day to review each 50 to 75 draft pages.

Returning the draft to you

Leave the same amount of time as is needed to distribute a draft for reviewers.
