Assessment Criteria

For each industry in which you have worked, assess your skills as follows:

You have heard of the industry

You can describe the industry: the products or services it produces, the key types of jobs represented, the major organizations serving the industry, current business performance of the industry (is it growing or shrinking), and the process of delivering goods and services from the producer to the consumer.

You have worked in this industry or are an expert consumer of its products or services.

4

You have supervised in this industry or conducted a financial analysis of one organization.

5

You have served as an executive, held a key technical post, or an key industry observer post.

Industries include telecommunications, software publishing, human resources, entertainment, defense, retail, and hospitality.

Consider this person's experience with various industries.

Industry Use Evaluation
Hospitality As a frequent traveller, can name the major hotel chains, how hotels operate (from a consumer's view) and, based on recent changes in hotel rates, assess that the industry is doing well. 2
Retail Used to be an assistant manager for a store in a major chain of clothiers, then went to work as a manager for an electronics retailer. 3
