| What? | A prayer about the relationship between G-d and nature. |
| When? | Received each evening, immediately after the Barchu (which is the formal call to prayer).. |
| How the Prayer Is Recited: | The Barchu has two lines. The first is only recited by the
leader. The second is recited by the congregation, then repeated by the leader. When reciting the words Barchu and Baruch, congregants traditionally bow in reverence. |
| Background and History: | Traditions vary among synagogues. In some, the prayer is read
aloud in Hebrew. In others, the prayer is read aloud in English. In others, the prayer is
read silently. Like its counterpart in the morning liturgy, the Asher Bidvaro observes the unchanging plan of creation. Its words praise G-d for the wonders of creation that are visible at twilight, and comment n the shifting pattern of stars, rhythm of seasons, and regular passage from day to night. |
